Description
Undated. Printed in France. Inscribed on reverse by artist: "Poise", ""Poise" in marble", "N. Elizabeth Prophet". There are two sections that are crossed out in which Prophet has written directions to return the piece, labeled "Silence", to the Art Association of Newport, and noting that it was included in the Annual Exhibition of Working Artist Members, July 8, 1932 to August 5, 1932. This work has been cited to have been modeled after an Argentinian friend of Prophet. (Leininger-Miller, 37) It was created in 1928 and last know to be returned to the collection of W.E.B Du Bois per an information card which was attached to the piece during it's showing in the William E. Harmon Award exhibition of 1930. (Harmon, 28-29)
