Irene Sutliffe graduated from New York Hospital Training School for Nurses in 1880. She was directress of the school from 1886 to 1902. She had an distinguished career including organizing the following institutions: Harmot Hospital in Erie, PA (1880s), School for Nurses at Long Island College Hospital, Brooklyn (1880s); Infantile Paralysis Emergency Hospital in New York (1916). She was also in charge of Camp Black during the Spanish American War. She died on December 30, 1936.
